who toiled for days and nights

to hollow out this good home

which has all the curves and corners of home

and the softly rotted leaves of home

and the perfectly round opening to outside

think what will happen in here

think of the new pink tiny ones

made of mouths and elbows

squirming like grubs

no sooner grown and fun

than gone

leaving behind them

home’s empty dark

the oak’s slow slow-beating heart

still not a bad home

after a day rifling through the forest

trying to see the funny side
